Department of History

Formed in 2016, the Department of History combines rigorous study along with close interaction between the faculty and students of the department. The faculty of the Department strives to train students to understand History as a study of not only what has happened in the past but also how to arrive to a rationalization of facts in order to understand the present. The Department is supported by some wonderfully committed and commendable faculty members that trains the students to look at History not simply as an interpretative discipline, but also emphasizes the importance of analyzing sources, developing interpretations, and understanding patterns in history over the course of time. History generally believed to be the mother of all disciplines is a growing subject and the scope of History has been undergoing constant changes. In such a changing context the Department is trying to deliver education and content to the students so as to create and contribute to the existing knowledge corpus. Apart from the regular courses the Department arranges special talk sessions, colloquia, and historical excursions. The undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in History provides a wide range of ideas, concepts, and skills to the students to make them self-reliant after completing the course. The faculty of the Department specializes in Ancient Indian History and Modern Indian History. The Department offers motivational, competitive and scientific methods of teaching so that student may shape their career in various sectors.


Programmes:

  • The Department offers full time courses in B.A. (History) and M.A. (History).
  • The four-year undergraduate programme in Hindi is divided into eight semesters. It provides a wide range of ideas and concepts that cut across disciplinary boundaries. The successful completion of the programme leads to the award of the degree of Bachelors in History. After the implementation of the NEP progremme it also offers elective courses in History for the students of other departments.
  • The department also runs a two year PG programme in History (M.A. History) which is divided into four semesters. It consists of exploring the knowledge about Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India, World History, Indian government and politics, Literature, Economic History and Contemporary issues in international relations. The study focuses on the events, stories, and narratives of historical societies, their practices, cultures, languages, art, and many other things.
