Within the precincts of the hallowed walls of St. Xavier’s College at Simdega lies the Department of Commerce (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) ̶ a department that has within a very short span of time come to be regarded as a beacon of erudition in the realm of trade and enterprise. Blessed with the divine pursuit of knowledge it has been the motto of the department to hold aloft the torch of learning under the sagacious guidance of erudite mentors to create young minds as thinking individuals ̶ a quality quintessential for academic excellence. The erudite mentors imbue the students with knowledge of trade, economics and finance to create within young minds an edifice of scholarly knowledge corpus on whom rests the future of the country. Not merely confined to theoretical knowledge the Department ensures practical application of abstract ideas through case studies, workshops, symposiums, and industrial visits so that the students can navigate themselves through the labyrinthine complexities of business. Thus, through a balanced knowledge of both the head and heart, theory and practice, old and new, the students become prepared to face the vicissitudes of an ever evolving and uncertain world of trade and commerce. The faculty of the Department specialises in areas of Finance, Marketing, Accounts, Business Law, Micro and Macro Economics, Statistics, Taxation, Cost Accounting, E-Commerce, International Business, Human Resource and Management, International Business and Office Management. Besides the academic syllabus the Department also gives stress on the curriculum for the overall cognitive development of the students. The students partake of a lively curriculum participating and organizing trade fairs, internships, and study tours.


Programmes:

  • The Department offers full time courses in B.Com. (Accounts) and M.Com. (Accounts).
  • The four-year undergraduate programme in Commerce is divided into eight semesters. It provides a wide range of ideas and concepts about Accounting, Management, Business and Corporate Law, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Tax and Computerised Accounting Application. Thus, this programme helps students in building a concrete footing for advanced studies in Commerce and to stand with the requirement of business sector, insurance, banking seeking youth fit for employment.
  • The department also runs a two year M.Com. programme in Accounts which is divided into four semesters. It consists of exploring the specialized knowledge of Managerial Accounting, Managerial Economics, Strategic Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Financial Management and Policy, Entrepreneurship Development, Quantitative techniques for Business decision etc.
